Samhain
Pronounced “SOW-in”
Definition:
An ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It is a time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest, allowing for deep connection with ancestors, spirits, and the unseen.
Traditionally celebrated on October 31st, Samhain honors death as part of the sacred cycle of life. It’s a time for remembrance, divination, and renewal, when we gather to reflect, release, and welcome the quiet wisdom of the darker months.
At Samhainfest, we honor these traditions through community, creativity, and celebration—bringing the old ways into new hands.
Come explore a rich lineup of seasonal experiences designed to delight and inspire:
Magical Marketplace
Shop artisan vendors offering handcrafted ritual tools, crystals, herbal creations, artwork, jewelry, and more.
Workshops & Demonstration
Learn about magick, divination, ancestral practices, and herbalism from experienced practitioners.
Community Connection
Gather with fellow seekers, intuitives, and creatives in a space of celebration and sacred presence.
Live Music & Performances
Enjoy mystical melodies, seasonal soundscapes, and performances that bring the energy of Samhain to life.
Dumb Supper: A Silent Meal for the Ancestors
As part of Samhainfest, we invite you to join us for a Dumb Supper—a sacred, silent meal held in honor of those who have passed beyond the veil.
A ritual of remembrance.
Guests are invited to eat in silence, leaving a place set for the beloved dead. In this quiet space, we reflect, honor, and open our hearts to the presence of our ancestors.
You may bring a photo, token, or offering for the communal altar.
All are welcome, regardless of spiritual path or background.
Seating is limited, and participation is first-come, first-served.
This is a deeply moving part of the Samhain season—a time to listen more than speak, remember more than plan, and connect more than perform.
Why Havre de Grace?
Havre de Grace is a liminal space, and our venue sits exactly where the oldest river in the world, Mama Susquehanna, completes her 444-mile journey and flows into the Chesapeake Bay. We gather at this sacred crossroads where salt and fresh water meet, in this beautiful town built on a clear quartz deposit.
The energy is palpable here, and the land spirits greatly support our work. Throughout the year, this space is gridworked by Elyse Welles, our festival director, with other sacred waters in her native Greece, adding to the power of the work we do. Watch the video to learn more.
Samhainfest is brought to life by a passionate team of creators, witches, and community builders dedicated to celebrating the season and supporting magical makers.
